What to Expect During Your Energy Assessment

  1. Good for you for allowing us to perform an energy assessment.  We will evaluate your current energy systems and determine how we can help you save money through energy conservation.  The first step in the process is to allow our team of Energy Efficiency Specialists to meet with you and access your buildings systems.  We will review your buildings usage of electric, gas and water as well as see if you are a good candidate for alternative energy such as solar.

  2. To begin, we will need to collect some information from you.  First, we would need a copy of your electric and gas bills.  This information is integral in providing you with accurate data for our savings proposal.  We may also require a building schematic or exit strategy map.  This helps us ensure that we review every area as well as provide a layout map for our Energy Efficiency Team.

  3. We would also like to sit down and ask you some questions regarding your process.  You will be asked about the following:
         - How do you feel your facility is working?
         - Do you have any concerns with your energy usage?  If so, what are they.
         - Heating and cooling
                    - What type of fuel
                    - What type of system
         - Square footage of your space
         - Hours of operation - may be needed by room/area
         - What is your implementation schedule, should you decide to move forward?
         - Do you have a budget allocated for energy efficiency?
         - What questions you may have regarding the assessment, programs, incentives, costs, etc.  It is our pleasure to help you understand what options and solutions are available to you to help you reduce your usage and save on your costs.

  4. From there, we would like you to accompany us through the building to further educate ourselves on your approach for each room or area.  The more guidance and insight from you, the better solutions we can provide to help reduce your consumption.

  5. As we enter each room and throughout the assessment, we will we collect information on our iPads/tablets on existing conditions.  We will typically take pictures of the room and equipment used.  Tools used during the audit may include light meters, screwdrivers or pliers to look into fixtures or equipment, distance meters for fixture height and room dimensions or other gauges or meters.  We will look at the lighting and lighting controls, how the area is heated/cooled, thermostats, motors/pumps, compressed air systems, mechanical or process equipment, windows and doors, water devices, water heating systems, plug loads, equipment inventories and schedules.  You may be asked what the areas are used for, how many hours the equipment is used, is it too hot or cold, do you use windows to cool/heat the areas.

  6. We will likely need access to your roof as well as any mechanical closets.  This is to evaluate your Roof Top Units (RTU’s) and or your mechanical equipment, HVAC systems, electrical transformers, circuitry and energy management systems, if they exist.

  7. Once all rooms have been assessed and the information collected, the assessment is concluded.  We then transmit that information and details outlining your existing footprint to our team for review.  If metering or further review of any systems is necessary, we will work with you to ensure minimal interruption to your business.  There may be times where another visit and/or Specialist will need to return for further information and/or data collection.

  8. The turnaround time for our return is typically less than two weeks.  The team will evaluate every opportunity that may exist to save you energy.  We will also evaluate the lowest cost options and the highest utility incentives to defray your costs.

  9. Your Energy Efficiency Specialist will return with a detailed summary of your facility.  The summary will outline your savings in kWh, therms or water usage.  By room, you will see a detailed outline of the existing conditions, an energy conservation solution and the associated savings.  For any mechanical opportunities, you will also see calculations specific to those solutions.

  10. Although you are not obligated to approve the report and move forward, these assessments carry valuable savings opportunities at extremely low costs to you.  Add in the utility incentive and benefits, the avoided maintenance costs, increased productivity and environmental savings factors, it is an extremely attractive proposal.  We would be happy to work with you to achieve these savings and more!
